A vision of boldness, impact and engagement

Celebrating 40 years of international cooperation marks a major milestone in the history of Socodevi and our network of co-ops and mutuals. Our approach and the fruits of our efforts were featured in hundreds of media stories and reports in Canada and around the world, receiving points to a clear truth: in a world hungry for sustainable solutions, Socodevi’s co-operative development model matters more than ever.

That said, what a year it has been—just as pivotal as it’s been demanding. Our 40th year was marked by several major upheavals: a decline in global development assistance budgets, the ripple effects of the dismantling of the USAID, tariffs imposed by our neighbours south of the border, rising geopolitical tensions and the growing impacts of climate change that are reshaping international aid priorities, including Canada’s. Given the current climate, Socodevi has taken an even more disciplined approach to measuring our impact, strengthening engagement across our sector and demonstrating the power of the co-operative approach.

The impact made possible when we work together

Building competitive value chains, from local to global markets

In Colombia, the incomes of cocoa-producing families supported by Socodevi have increased by 233% over the past five years.

Since 2020, Socodevi has supported them in building their production and organizing capacity and breaking into more profitable markets, both locally and internationally.

Creating value through co-operative innovation

In Honduras, a co-investment model totalling CAD $13.1 million has resulted in the construction of a state-of-the-art processing facility.

In just two harvest seasons, the share of coffee production from the partnering associative businesses exported through Aroma Café & Miel increased sevenfold. In 2025–2026, 28.33% of exports were directed to the Canadian market.

Building co-operative resilience at scale

To support families affected by the war in Ukraine, Socodevi and its partners have launched a CAD 4 million economic support program for co-operatives.

This initiative complements other efforts—including an online learning platform, training programs, and climate-smart services—that will enable 50 cooperatives in 10 regions, including several close to frontline areas, to actively participate in the country’s reconstruction and development.
