Cooperative development

SOCODEVI in Mozambique has accomplished quite a feat this year! Our efforts helped create two new multi-regional cooperatives and further the development of the Mozambican Association for the Promotion of Modern Cooperativism (AMPCM).

These two cooperatives, COOPDASI and COOPDAZA, will allow hundreds of families to obtain fair prices for their highly nutritious sweet potatoes, market garden produce and beans, in turn strengthening their food security. The technical support offered by SOCODEVI also enables them to diversify their production for their own consumption.

In addition, two women were elected president. A great deal of work had been done by the SOCODEVI team to prepare the women of the founding members’ committees to present their candidacy for the presidency and for the boards of directors or supervisory boards.

“We are grateful to SOCODEVI-Mozambique, which significantly supported us in creating our cooperative. We have always worked as an association, and now we will be stronger, because we are united in the cooperative. We believe that as a co-op, we will have easier access to the market and be able to better negotiate prices for our agricultural products.”

 – Argentina Jossias, founding member of the Gaza Agrarian Development Cooperative (COOPDAZA).

SOCODEVI would also like to thank IRECUS for its involvement. IRECUS director Claude-André Guillotte recently visited the project. Notably, he successfully contributed to the development of AMPCM’s strategic plan.
