TRACC

Chadian Women Resilient to Climate Change

Project Summary

With the Chadian Women Resilient to Climate Change (TRACC) initiative, Socodevi works to strengthen the climate adaptation capacity of young rural women and their communities in the face of climate change.

In a context where these impacts heavily affect community life, the project focuses on the adoption of climate-smart agriculture and food systems, the sustainable conservation of ecosystems that are strategic for biodiversity, and the adaptation of value chains to new climate realities.

Objectives

  • Strengthen the adaptation capacity of women and girls to climate change
  • Promote the adoption by rural women, girls, and their communities of agricultural adaptation solutions that support biodiversity and integrate gender equality
  • Increase the capacity of groups and co-operatives to develop effective climate-smart food systems
  • Improve inclusive and equitable governance of natural resources for sustainable, shared management

Results and impact

  • Five peanut and sesame producing co-operatives (992 members, including 727 women and young women) received economic support totalling 35,769,500 XAF, strengthening their capacity and economic power through group sales and improved user rights
  • 706 women and young women were trained through a GBV prevention program delivered in synergy with feminist CSOs
  • 27 peanut and sesame producing co-operatives (978 members, 74% of women and young women) were trained in climate-smart agricultural techniques and systems that support agrobiodiversity and nutrition
  • After one year of implementation, membership in the first 15 co-operatives increased from 1,491 to 2,047—a 37% overall increase—and the number of women and young women increased by 33%
