Our impact

Context

Vietnam is a country where Socodevi has been active for more than two decades, working to strengthen the co-operative sector, improve rural livelihoods, and promote both social and economic inclusion. Projects focus on diversifying and increasing income, improving co-operative governance, supporting women’s entrepreneurship, and promoting biodiversity.

Objectives and expected results

  • Rely on co-operatives to create jobs, improve incomes, fight food insecurity and poverty, and foster community development from both a social and economic perspective.
  • Improve management efficiency.
  • Establish a range of services aligned with members’ socio-economic needs.
  • Strengthen co-operative governance through increased member participation.

Sectors of activity

  • Agriculture: dairy and fruit (pomelo, table grapes, dragon fruit)
  • Training and women’s entrepreneurship
  • Biodiversity conservation
  • Women’s economic empowerment
  • Climate change adaptation

Results and impacts

Strengthening the co-operative model

  • More than 80 co-operatives and 3 federations have been supported, improving their governance, environmental and financial performance, and inclusion of women. Models such as Evergrowth and Ben Tre Green Pomelo co-op now inspire the national co-operative movement.

Creating an enabling environment for co-operative development

  • Projects have supported Vietnamese authorities in introducing policies favorable to co-operative development by training 4,500 stakeholders on the new co-operative law, training 744 young people in leadership and co-operative entrepreneurship, and certifying 95 local trainers in collaboration with IRECUS.

Improved rural livelihoods

  • Projects have diversified agricultural activities, established a dairy co-operative, and increased household incomes while improving access to essential services.

Promotion of inclusion and biodiversity

  • By supporting women from ethnic minority groups and protecting ecosystems in Ha Giang and Dak Lak, our actions directly impact 5,000 people and improve conditions for 20,000 more.

Testimonials

“Before the VCED project, I believed women had no role to play in decision-making or in the development of the co-operative. Thanks to the training and support I received, I gained confidence and dared to get more involved. Today, I sit on the co-operative’s board of directors and I help other women find their place. We are now recognized for our leadership and our ability to help our community move forward.”

  • Le Thi Kim Truc
Member of the Thanh Binh co-operative, single mother, elected to the board of directors

“We learned to plan our farming activities together, to discuss and make decisions as a family. Before, unexpected events caused us a lot of stress, but now, thanks to the planning tools and skills acquired through the project training, we are better prepared and we share responsibilities. This has helped us improve our productivity and participate more actively in the co-operative.”
