SOCODEVI is proud to announce STRONG’HER, our first Ethiopian project. What a great way to celebrate our 40th anniversary!
STRONG’HER is a five-year project to empower women, encourage co-ops to drive economic development, and improve the agri-food processing sector’s climate change resilience. Funded by the Government of Canada, it will improve living conditions for tens of thousands of people in the Oromia and Addis Ababa regions.
A strong response to climate and economic issues
With STRONG’HER, SOCODEVI is encouraging women teff and legume farmers to adopt practices and technology that are adapted and resilient to climate change.
“Technical training, access to better technology and better structured markets can not only increase production, but also be a profit booster for small-scale women entrepreneurs and farmers,” says Ethiopia-based SOCODEVI Project Director Mario Boivin.
Our ultimate goals:
- Reducing economic vulnerability: The project focuses on improving crop storage and processing practices, especially for teff (injera) and legumes, in order to mitigate climate change risks.
- Improving profits: More efficient production and processing techniques add value to local products, leading to more sustainable economic prospects.
- Supporting women entrepreneurs: By training and supporting women, STRONG’HER fights gender inequality, which in turn fosters a more inclusive, innovative economic environment.
