Nature-based solutions

SOCODEVI promotes nature-based solutions (NBS) in forestry, agroforestry, agriculture and beekeeping to address environmental issues such as rapidly declining biodiversity and climate disruptions.

To improve living conditions and reduce climate vulnerability, we encourage the families we support to generate income through a diverse array of activities in harmony with nature.

Both biodiversity and communities benefit!

By encouraging women and young people to be a part of sustainable resource management, and by promoting inclusive collective entrepreneurship (including for processing timber and non-timber forest products), SOCODEVI is helping promote both gender equality and better use of resources.

Working with cooperatives means we’re maximizing our impact for responsible management of natural resources. Unlike traditional businesses, which are pressured to turn an immediate profit, cooperatives are rooted in their communities and enable members to focus on the long-term resilience and prosperity of their operations.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which developed the NBS approach, 30% of climate mitigation needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement can be provided by NBS. The environmental benefits from NBS for the fight against climate change have been estimated to be as much as $170 billion.
